ETPL: Glasgow vs Rotterdam - decided in the final over
Glasgow Cosmic and Rotterdam Dockers played a real nailbiter on Tuesday. At 43/4, the Scots seemed dead and buried, but Liam Livingstone turned it into a game with an impressive innings of 54 runs from 39 balls. Rotterdam then needed 19.5 overs to win the game, with Australian Ben McDermott playing a crucial role.
The Dockers chose to field and had a fine start bowling-wise. Livingstone stepped up, and Liam Naylor's 26 runs were also welcome. 140/9 wasn't spectacular, but at least the Scots had something to bowl against. Anrich Nortje was spot on again with 3-20, and David Wiese and our own Roelof van der Merwe also posted excellent figures.
Michael Levitt was allowed to open with his idol Faf du Plessis, who, however, could not make a high score and was dismissed by of Paul van Meekeren (20/1). Vikram Singh (24) and Levitt (37) provided a ‘Dutch’ partnership of 42 runs for the second wicket.
Van Meekeren (3-21) bowled wonderfully and dismissed Klaasen and Levitt in addition to Du Plessis, but his heroics were insufficient to pull off an upset. Ben McDermott stayed around and, with 37 not out, ensured the win went to the Rotterdam Dockers.
