O’Dowd brings Hurricanes close to victory

At VCC on Thursday, the Hurricanes and the Seafarers played a T20 match as part of the Fairtree ProSeries. The Seafarers won 205-194 despite a heroic knock by Max O’Dowd.

Shariz Ahmad (57) opened with Cedric de Lange (44) for the Seafarers. Both left-handers showed wonderful shots and laid a great foundation with an opening partnership of 86 runs. Helped by a quick 34 from Scott Edwards, the Seafarers reached a challenging 205/4.

Max O’Dowd brought the Hurricanes close. The big man from Kampong started slowly because initially he lost a number of batting partners. For the seventh wicket, he made 43 quick runs with Sebastiaan Braat (27 not out). O’Dowd hit sixes in the thirteenth, fifteenth, sixteenth, and seventeenth over, but when he fell for 78 runs from 51 balls, the resistance was broken as the Hurricanes made 194/8. Teun Leijer (2-16) had the best figures.
