Royals’ Saqib nearly surprises Seafarers

On Tuesday at Hermes DVS, the Seafarers and the Royals played a T20 match as part of the Fairtree ProSeries. Saqib Zulfiqar brought the tension back with magnificent batting after a seemingly one-sided start: 178-173.

The Seafarers were sent in by the Royals. The challenging result was 178/8, thanks to Cedric de Lange (38), Johan Smal (31), and a total of seven batsmen in double figures. Michael Rippon took 3-31 for the Royals. Tom de Leede had the dubious honor of being caught by his brother Bas.

The Royals had a reasonable start (Bas de Leede 43), but ducks by numbers 4, 5, and 7 seemed to be their undoing. The Seafarers, however, had underestimated an unleashed Saqib Zulfiqar, who, playing as number six, made 91 runs in fifty balls, bringing the Royals close to victory (173/9). Dutt, Pringle, Shariz, and Glover each took two wickets.
