Sharks v Suns ends 168 - 153

The Sharks opted to bat after winning the toss. Babette de Leede (31) and Georgia Atkinson (28) combined for 57 runs for the first wicket, and numbers three and four, Carlijn van Koolwijk (29) and Frédérique Overdijk (23), also contributed well. However, due to a failing middle order, the Suns managed to turn the score around from 98/2 to 109/7. The fact that the final score was 168 all out in 37 overs was thanks to rear guard action by Anshika Dixit, who made 13 runs as number nine. In the Suns' attack, Sanya Khurana excelled with 5-29. 

Southern Suns innings

The Southern Suns' innings was partly similar to that of the Sharks - a reasonable start with 29 runs for the first wicket and 56 for the second, with Phebe Molkenboer (48) as top scorer. However, the middle order failed here as well; 85/2 became 101/7. Here too, fine rear-guard action ensued between number 9 Noa Mais (23 not out) and number 11 Robbi Hommels (12). Together, these ladies came close to the target with 33 runs for the final wicket, but the curtain finally fell at 153. 

In the Sharks attack - no pun intended - Georgia Atkinson (4-25), Myrthe van den Raad (3-34), and Pritish Ramtri (2-9) had the best figures, while Carlijn van Koolwijk was economical (1-21) and took Molkenboer's prize wicket. 

On Wednesday, August 12, the women will play another 50-over game in the framework of the Fairtree Super Series.
