Tension rises in European T20 Premier League
In the ETPL, a huge battle is underway for the top three spots in the standings. The number 1 will go straight to the final on September 20. Numbers 2 and 3 will battle it out on September 19 to determine the other finalist. At the time of writing (16/9), Rotterdam, Amsterdam, and Edinburgh are the main contenders.
On Tuesday, the Flames celebrated the Dublin Guardians attack with five batsmen hitting double figures and Campher (66), De Leede (49), and David (48 not out) as top scorers. Irish veteran Craig Young took 3-50. Dublin had to better 214/5 (with 22 fours and ten sixes).
Irishman Harry Tector was dropped by Bracewell, but was caught a ball later. With that, Edwards caught the entire top 3. Although Dublin was not yet out of the running at 65/3/9, the required run rate quickly rose to over fourteen runs per over. Captain Scott Edwards sensed perfectly that spin would do the trick. Bracewell, Dutt, and Pringle were given plenty of room to prove Edwards right. Logically, 112 off the last six overs proved too much to ask.
Dockers defeat league leaders Rockers
On Tuesday afternoon, the Rotterdam Dockers defeated the Edinburgh Rockers. After 66/3, a partnership of 66 runs from 42 balls followed, made by Faf Du Plessis (54) and Heinrich Klaasen (47) for the fourth wicket. The final score was 181/6.
Although Edinburgh got off to a quick start, a crucial spell by American international Shubham Ranjane (3-22) meant the league leaders fell six runs short of the win.
Impressive fightback for Amsterdam against Glasgow
Against the Amsterdam Flames, Glasgow Cosmic initially seemed headed for a monster score on Wednesday. Liam Livingstone was dropped on 6 by Jordan Neill and survived a very close lbw shout off Tim Pringle. Glasgow capitalized fully with Livingstone (44) and George Munsey (51), who brought the score to a promising 104/3.
However, Bas de Leede then appeared on the scene. Glasgow lost eight wickets for 22 runs. De Leede outsmarted Naylor with a knuckle ball, and Player of the Match David Payne (3-27) also struck with a slower delivery. From 104/3, Glasgow went to 126 all out. Bas de Leede took 4-6, his best performance in T20 cricket.
Despite a poor start of the Amsterdam innings, the team did not get into trouble. Curtis Campher batted strongly again with 44 runs, and Scott Edwards and Tim David had plenty of time to finish it off.
With the win, Amsterdam Flames moved up to second place. The Rockers must beat Belfast on Thursday to stay in the lead.
