VCC has started the 2026 season well. On home soil, it defeated regional rivals Quick and HCC and won the NEXT Communications Cup, the unofficial season opener in the The Hague region.
Thanks to the efforts of the municipality of Leidschendam-Voorburg and the ground staff led by Tom de Grooth, the pitch was in fantastic condition. The weather also cooperated flawlessly this year.
In the morning hours, host VCC proved to be two levels above Quick. Thanks to international Noah Croes (71 runs from just 32 balls) and Waseem Mohsen (42), VCC reached a high score of 176 runs in fifteen overs. Samuel Voss, Quick's new signing, held his own in offense with a 2-16 lead. Quick's response at bat was unconvincing; with a score of 76/5, veteran Bob van Gigch became top scorer with 25 runs.
HBS – HCC was won by HCC, as HBS only managed to put 74 runs on the books. Teun Leijer and Clayton Floyd each took two wickets. In the final against VCC, HCC scored 114 runs in twenty overs, with the returning Zach Worden (27 runs) as top scorer. Ryan Klein, back from injury, took three wickets for 26 runs. Cedric de Lange (43) and Waseem Mohsen (37) brought VCC to the winning score seemingly effortlessly in just 14.5 overs.
The comfortable victory will give VCC confidence for the 50-over competition, which kicks off on April 25 at 11:00 AM with the same match: VCC – HCC at Sportpark Westvliet.
