- Dutch cricketer Bas de Leede signs for Durham
Amstelveen / Chester le Street, 14 February 2023 – After a memorable few months firstly with the Morrisville Samp Army team at the T10 tournament in Abu Dhabi and the recently concluded ILT20 tournament with the Mumbai Indians, Dutch cricketer Bas de Leede has now signed a contract for professional cricket in the coming European summer, joining Durham for two years.
De Leede (23), until recently also active for Voorburg CC, is delighted about his contract: "This is a great step towards more professional cricket. Durham participates in three leagues – four-day, one-day and T20 – where I hope to get a chance to play. I am grateful to Durham for giving me this opportunity.”
De Leede, who also plays for the Netherlands, will be released for the World Cup Qualifier that will be played in Zimbabwe in June and July 2023.
Bas de Leede has played 23 One Day Internationals so far in which he made 480 runs (h.s. 89 against Pakistan) and took nine wickets. He also played 27 T20I matches in which he made 610 runs (highest score 91 not out) and took 27 wickets. He took thirteen of those wickets during the T20 World Cup in November 2022, with which he ended in second place - together with Englishman Sam Curran.
Among others, English international players Ben Stokes, Mark Wood and Brydon Carse will be De Leede’s teammates at Durham, as well as Dutch international Brandon Glover who signed with the northern county last week.
