Amsterdam, 23 May 2023 -- The squad is announced for the Dutch men's cricket team that will participate in the Cricket World Cup qualifying tournament in Zimbabwe in June and July. The two top teams will qualify for the 50-over Cricket World Cup that will be held in India at the end of 2023.
Previously, the Netherlands (as winners of the World Cricket League) participated in the Super League. The countries that finished in the top-8 qualified directly for the World Cup. For the numbers 9 to 13, the upcoming tournament offers the opportunity to qualify for the World Cup through the 'back door'.
The Netherlands will take on Zimbabwe, USA, Nepal and the West Indies.
The other pool consists of Sri Lanka, Ireland, Scotland, Oman and UAE.
The squad includes: Scott Edwards (captain, wicketkeeper), Max O'Dowd, Logan van Beek, Vikram Singh, Aryan Dutt, Viv Kingma, Bas de Leede, Noah Croes, Ryan Klein, Teja Nidamanuru, Wesley Barresi, Shariz Ahmad, Clayton Floyd, Michael Levitt, Saqib Zulfiqar.
Captain Scott Edwards: “Coming off the back of a three game series in Zimbabwe a few months ago, we have been really intentional in our preparation for the qualifiers and we are confident the squad we have picked can play a brand of cricket that will be successful in these conditions. We have a good mixture of experienced players along with some exciting young players who have performed well in the domestic Pro Series and club season leading into this tournament.”
High Performance Manager Roland Lefebvre: “The Netherlands team selected for the World Cup Qualifiers in Zimbabwe is a well-balanced team, coming of the back of a very successful T20 WC in Australia and two competitive Super League series against Zimbabwe and South Africa. The unavailability of several of our more experienced County players has allowed a number of young players to be included in the squad and we look forward seeing them perform at the highest level.”
