- Dutch women beat Jersey twice
Although Jersey proved to be a good opponent, the Netherlands beat the team twice in T20I's at Kampong on Thursday: 144-75 and 142-92.
The Netherlands were back at full strength and opted to bat after winning the toss. Heather Siegers (15) timed the ball well but became too eager after hitting two fours in one over. In the tenth over, a nasty incident occurred. Iris Zwilling hit a skier. No doubt a keeper's catch, but bowler Wetherall also wanted it and collided with keeper Maguire. Fortunately, she was able to continue playing.
Robine Rijke played another fantastic innings; wintering in New Zealand has done her good. She times the ball well, plays it late and is the best runner, who dares to take risks. After 46 runs off 28 balls, however, she had to leave the field after a wonderful caught and bowled by Merritt (102/3/13.4).
Iris Zwilling lost her wicket after a well-made 52, but the final total was set at 144/5. Left arm spinner Chloe Greechan (0-20 in four overs), who also impressed during the T10 series on Tuesday, wouldn't look out of place at a FairBreak tournament. Erin Duffy took 2-31.
Jersey innings
Iris Zwilling and Eva Lynch immediately picked up wickets. After that, the Netherlands slackened; In the sixth over, for example, there were four consecutive missed chances for catches and run outs. Also in the eighth over, a chance went begging off Lynch's bowling. Carlijn van Koolwijk closed her hands on time (32/4) off the bowling of De Lange, but De Lange deserved a second wicket.
Hannah Landheer opted for the simpler option: hitting the stumps three times, including Charlotte Miles' legstump (46/5). Despite poor Dutch fielding, Jersey was all out for 75, with Trinity Smith (24) as the top scorer. Hannah Landheer took 3-10 and Eva Lynch 2-16 deserved (even) better figures.
Dutch too strong in second T20I
In the second T20I on Thursday Zwilling and Riijke rode their luck with a number of dropped chances. Both benefited well, Zwilling with 38 and Rich with 33 (off 34). They made a partnership of 69 at a pleasant pace. Frédérique Overdijk (25) and Phebe Molkenboer (19 not out) combined for another 43 for the fourth wicket. This brought the Dutch score to a solid 142/4. Jersey was unable to chase that; 92/7 was the end result. Merel Dekeling took 2-15 with her legspin and Eva Lynch was extremely economical with 1-8 in four overs.
