- Dutch women in T10 final after beating Gibraltar and Sweden
The Dutch women’s team has reached the final of the first FanCode ECIW by beating Gibraltar and Sweden. Gibraltar’s 14 (!) runs were surpassed in five balls. Sweden barely put up more resistance: 136/1 - 40/8.
It was nice to see eleven more or less fit players taking the field after a virus had downed half the squad. Renewed energy ensured that the hostesses only managed fourteen runs off their ten overs. overs. Annemijn Thomson, back from illness, took three wickets for tworuns; Hannah Landheer 2-3.
Heather Siegers had also recovered and settled the game with three boundaries off five deliveries.
Sweden
Against Sweden the Netherlands could bat first as the coin fell favourably for the Dutch. That went very well; Sterre Kalis (66 off 32 with four sixes) and Babette de Leede (52 off 20 with five sixes) gave the spectators a true batting show. They made 116 runs for the second wicket and established a monster score of 136.
Obviously Sweden did not come close. Both the seamers (Mikkie Zwilling 2-10) and the spinners (Annemijn van Beuge 3-7) proved too much for the Scandinavians. As wicketkeeper, Babette de Leede had four victims. Sweden 40/8.
On Saturday February 25 the final will be played against Italy at 19.30.
