- Dutch women make it to T10 final; England win deservedly
The Dutch women have lost the T10 final against England. In Spain the scores were 86/5-89/2. Earlier in the day the Netherlands reached the final by defeating Ireland convincingly.
The start was anything but bright when Phebe Molkenboer was brilliantly caught. It was even 16/4 in a flash.
Thanks to Caroline de Lange (33 off 22) and Robine Rijke (26 not out) the Dutch made 86/5.
The Dutch bowling and fielding would have to be perfect to defend that score. An excellent running catch by Sanya Khurana set the tone, followed by an outfield catch from Rijke. After that, some difficult opportunities were missed, and England won the tournament just like in 2023 (Kesteven 59 not out). Lara Leemhuis deserved even better figures than 2-15.
Earlier in the day the Dutch had beaten Ireland spectacularly.
Ireland opted to bat first after winning the toss. Despite missing Hannah Landheer due to study commitments, the Irish momentum was curtailed when Phebe Molkenboer caught danger woman Louise Little for 19.
Several economical overs forced the Irish to take a drastic measure: Lara McBride retired.
Some high balls seemed catchable, but the third wicket did not fall until the eighth over when Caroline de Lange took a good catch at long on.
Solid groundfielding, among others by Robine Rijke who had a busy afternoon, led to a gettable target of 81 runs. Silver Siegers and Annemijn van Beuge took a wicket each and bowled economically.
The opening pair made a quick 33, after which less than a run a ball was required with nine wickets in hand. With 37 Sanya laid the foundation for an excellent victory that saw the Dutch reach the final (Rijke 25 not out).
All in all it was a useful event during which the players were able to showcase their development in view of the Nepal tour at the end of January.
