- Great performances Molkenboer and Schmidt beat Irish women
On Day 3 of the European Cricket Championships for women at the Cartama Oval in Spain, the Netherlands XI recorded another victory. This time, Ireland was the victim: 124-87.
Sanya Khurana started strongly, but saw a failed lofted drive go to the covers after having hit two sixes (15/1/1). Phebe Molkenboer (a powerful 49 off 25 balls with five sixes) and Robine Rijke (regained her form with 35 off 17) went to 105/3 in the ninth over at a pleasant pace. The final chord of Caroline de Lange and Merel Dekeling led to 124/3.
Hannah Landheer is having a great tournament and just like on Monday, there was support in the field from Robin Schmidt (2/1). The catch led to a return favour when Landheer grabbed two great running catches off Schmidt's bowling, including the dangerous Louise Little. Good catches by Robine Rijke (2x) and Merel Dekeling in the outfield meant four Irish down.
With two economical overs, Isabel van der Woning (1-10) took the wind out of the sails of the Irish in the middle overs. On 59/5/6, there was at most a bonus point for the Irish to earn. They succeeded on the very last ball of the match. Hannah Landheer took 1-8. Standout was Robin Schmidt with an unparalleled 4-12.
