Netherlands A has reached the final of the Dream11 European Cricket Championship. In the first play-off match the Netherlands defeated Spain: 129 - 99. With that, the Orange team qualified directly for the final which will be played on Friday evening at 7.30 pm. Ryan Klein (62) and Clayton Floyd (2-10) were again important for the Netherlands.
The format is similar to that of the Dutch Topklasse: numbers one and two play for a direct spot in the final. After that, the loser gets a second chance against the winner of the play-off match between the numbers three and four.
On a short ball from Kamran, Clayton Floyd was caught off his glove. It was 12/2 when Musa Ahmad mowed over a full toss and to his horror saw his legstump uprooted. Saqib Zulfiqar (13 off 10) and Boris Gorlee (23 off 12) were both lucky to be dropped in the outfield – so it was still 40/2 in the Powerplay (the first three overs).
Ryan Klein started off slowly on the neat Spanish attack, but started motoring facing the dangerous left arm seamer Mohammad Kamran (2-22) and Prince Dhiman. After that, the South African Dutchman was unstoppable. He made a monumental 62 off only 23 balls, with eight sixes and a strike rate of nearly 270. Fifteen extras did not help the Spanish cause; the Netherlands put down a solid 129.
Innings Spain
Almost traditionally, Viv Kingma took an important wicket in his first over. After four overs, there were only 32 runs on the board. When the Saqib / Sikander combination dismissed Daniel Doyle (22) and Floyd bowled two brilliant overs, the Netherlands undoubtedly had the best chances of winning. Hamza Saleem Dar made 44 in 21 balls, but he was the only Spaniard with a strike rate over 200. Braat took two catches at long on and Asad had two handsome stumpings. Floyd (2-10) and Saqib (3‑19) were the most successful Dutch bowlers. Spain finished on 99/8.
On Friday evening at 7.30 pm, the Netherlands will play the grand final against England, Spain or Scotland. On https://www.ecn.cricket/european-cricket-championship/scores-fixtures, not only the numerical course of the match can be followed, but also the live stream.
