- Preview: first ODI in ten years between Netherlands and Scotland (19 & 21 May)
This week, the Dutch men's team will play two ODI's against Scotland on Wednesday 19 and Friday 21 May on the VOC pitch in Rotterdam. The start is at 11 a.m., both days. Due to the Dutch COVID-19 countermeasures (even after the new restrictions effective 19 May), no spectators are allowed on the site. Instead, the matches will be streamed on the KNCB YouTube channel.
Scottish bring experienced squad
For Scotland, the two ODIs against the Netherlands will be the first international games since the team played in the third round of the CWC League 2 in Dubai in December 2019 against the UAE and the USA. In the meantime, the two subsequent World Cup qualifying rounds in which Scotland would play have been postponed again due to the corona pandemic. Coach Shane Burger brings a very experienced selection to the Netherlands. Read more about it here.
The Netherlands recently played a three-country tournament in Nepal against the host country and Malaysia. National coach Ryan Campbell mainly used this tournament to give a number of young players the opportunity to show themselves and to give them international experience.
The last time that the Netherlands and Scotland met in an official ODI dates back to almost ten years ago. The two countries played two international matches in Aberdeen in 2011, both of which were won by the host country.
Preview head coach Ryan Campbell
“Scotland and the Netherlands have been the benchmark in Associate Cricket over the past 5 years & I expect nothing different in these two ODIs. Our lads have been looking forward to locking horns with them for months now. Our squad is up and running after the A tour to Ireland and it presents an opportunity to see more of how our best youngsters are tracking. Aryan Dutt will get his first opportunity at International ODI level this week, he along with Bas de Leede, Philippe Boissevain & Scott Edwards will all need to back up skipper Pieter Seelaar if we are to win the series.”
