Head Coach Shane Deitz: Nothing to lose and everything to gain
The team is very excited about this opportunity to be involved in a tournament with some of the top teams in the world. We go into this with absolutely nothing to lose and everything to gain from this experience. No doubt we are the outsiders to progress from the group but that's a great place to be in, as we can play with freedom and really enjoy the tournament. So that is our focus, to enjoy, learn and soak in the whole experience and you never know, we may surprise a few teams.
We have a few changes to our squad since the T20 qualifiers in August. Miranda Veringmeier has retired from international cricket which will leave a hole in the batting, as she has been a great player for a long time, but this opens up an opportunity for someone else. We welcome back Sterre Kalis and Jolien van Vliet who will bring a lot of experience and stability to the team. I am looking forward to seeing Sterre take on some of the world's top teams and be a real leader on and off the pitch after her brilliant year in the UK this summer. We also have brought in an exciting young talent in Gwen Bloemen who has developed rapidly in the few months she has been in the squad. Gwen has a huge future ahead of her and she's truly one to keep an eye on.
