- ProSeries promises exciting clash Hurricanes vs Seafarers
The 2023 men’s High Performance program gets underway with three 50 over Pro Series fixtures in April and May. Following a restructure of the men’s High Performance squads, players from the National Squad and ‘A’ Team Squad will be selected in two teams. The Hurricanes and Seafarers will do battle with a view to providing more meaningful competitive matches, experience, and preparation for the summer ahead.
Netherlands Head Coach Ryan Cook added his thoughts on the addition of the Pro Series fixtures: “With the upcoming World Cup Qualifiers on the horizon, playing strength against strength cricket in the Netherlands is of paramount importance. We are excited by the depths in the squads selected and looking forward to some quality cricket being played.”
Hurricanes
The Hurricanes will be captained by opening batsman Maxwell O’Dowd and includes current ODI centurion Teja Nidamanuru and the ever improving Aryan Dutt. Ross ter Braak, brother of former Netherlands international Dan ter Braak makes his first appearance into the Dutch high performance setup.
Seafarers
For the Seafarers, National men’s captain Scott Edwards takes the reins and added his thoughts: “There has been a lot of work put in behind the scenes to make sure the best players are available for these Pro Series games. These games will provide individuals an opportunity to push their case for selection and match preparation for the World Cup qualifiers in June.” Edwards will be able to call on Shariz Ahmed who took his first ODI five wicket bag against Zimbabwe earlier this year along with Netherlands T10 Captain Sebastiaan Braat.
Following the squad selections Jeroen Smits, convenor of selectors, said: “After the experience gained by the National team during the Super League and the successes of the A team at the European T10 Championships, it is good to see that these Pro Series have gained extra value.
With the elimination of the Super League, this series will comprise the most important matches towards the qualification route later this summer (July) for the World Cup (50 overs) that will take place in India. The Pro Series will provide an opportunity for all players to stake a claim for the final selection that will compete in Zimbabwe for two tickets to the said World Cup in India later this year (October 2023).”
Coaches
Alongside the two squads Heino Kuhn (Hurricanes) and Pierce Fletcher (Seafarers) will take on the coaching duties with George Dunlop and Dean Munsami providing the Physio and Strength & Conditioning.
The three match series will take place at the following venues:
Game 1: Wednesday April 26 VRA Amsterdam 11am start
Game 2: Wednesday May 3 Kampong Utrecht 11am start
Game 3: Tuesday May 16 VOC Rotterdam 11am start
All supporters are welcome.
