- The Netherlands A gets out of jail against Sweden and Hungary
The Netherlands A has not started the Dream11 T10 tournament in Malaga convincingly. Against Sweden, the Netherlands made 113 runs. Especially thanks to Floyd (2-8) and Kingma (2-11), Sweden (102) fell just short. Against Hungary it was even closer: 103-98, with a leading role for Boris Gorlee.
Few Dutch players will have lost sleep over Sweden before the match. But that changed after two deliveries when Musa Ahmad and Boris Gorlee were both back in the pavilion. When Clayton Floyd and Saqib Zulfiqar joined them in the second over, it was 5/4.
However, Ryan Klein (24 off 16 balls) and captain Sebastiaan Braat (33 off 11) ensured a smooth partnership of 52 for the fifth wicket. Thanks to contributions from Elenbaas (15) and Dutt (16*), the Orange managed 113/7.
Sweden innings
Two chances in the first two overs could have brought the Orange back into the game immediately, but even fielding, the Netherlands was not yet awake in the first two overs.
Brilliant bowling by Kingma (2-11) and Clayton Floyd (2-8) ensured the turnaround. Kingma cleaned Share Ali and his successor Dash was gone within a few balls. One over later, Clayton Floyd was successful twice. Later, both legspinners, Saqib Zulfiqar and Philippe Boissevain, took wickets, limiting Sweden to 102.
Hungary
Against Hungary, the Netherlands was the favorite as well. But club cricket showed earlier this year that the European teams are getting stronger; neither HBS nor VOC managed to reach the finals week at the time.
The Netherlands managed 103/7 off their ten overs of which Gorlee made a creative 36 out of 17 balls, Klein 16 (10) and Floyd a quickfire 16 off only six balls.
Hungary did not hold back. The praised Dutch attack had no answer to the brutal hitting power of the Hungarians Ravindran and Khukhikel – until Saqib Zulfiqar (0-5 in 2) appeared on the scene. Both righthanders turned out not to be able to handle Saqib's legspin at all.
Several wickets fell and Hungary still had to make 21 runs of the last two overs. Thanks to Ximus du Plooy – who was dismissed before the end – only nine were required of the last over. Captain Braat took the ball himself and a memorable over followed.
Fielding at long off, Gorlee balanced above the boundary rope, throwing ball to Floyd who completed the catch. Three balls later, Gorlee had a more straightfoward chance at long off which he pressed safely to the chest. Braat took 2-3 and the Netherlands was still the winner of this bizarre match.
