- The Netherlands women beat PNG in first showdown
The Dutch women's team has beaten PNG in the first One Day International as part of the HCLTech TriSeries. In Utrecht, the Dutch passed 148 runs of the visitors for the loss of seven wickets.
This week the Netherlands play a number of matches against Papua New Guinea and Scotland.
After the Dutch won the toss, Iris Zwilling and Hannah Landheer ran after through the top order of the visitors (15/3). Caroline de Lange took the fourth wicket (40/4) by giving a ball a lot of flight; Opener Vare ran out of her crease and was stumped.
A LBW from Silver Siegers and a catch from Eva Lynch at short mid wicket meant 72/6. After that, however, PNG produced the biggest partnership of the innings: 56 for the seventh wicket before Hannah Landheer dismissed the top-scoring number eight (Thomas with 30).
A brilliant run out by Robine Rijke led to 144/9. The number ten then took the strike, although the number eleven should have gotten it. The number 10 hit a four that was not reversed. Then the number eleven still got the strike.
This remarkable course of affairs led to PNG’s 148 all out. Hannah Landheer, Iris Zwilling and Caroline de Lange bowled well and had corresponding figures. The Dutch fielding left room for improvement.
Innings Netherlands
The Dutch had the worst possible start when Babette de Leede was bowled off the very first ball, followed a little later by Annemijn van Beuge and Phebe Molkenboer (14/3).
A good partnership came from Robine Rijke and Iris Zwilling: 35 for the fourth wicket towards 49/4.
Rijke and Annemijn Thomson added another 35 for the fifth wicket, and Rijke - who became a convincing top scorer with 60 excellent runs - 29 more for the sixth wicket with Frédérique Overdijk (16).
These valuable partnerships brought the win closer. Caroline de Lange and Eva Lynch (17 not out) kept cool and gave the Netherlands a tidy victory: 149/7.
