- Third ODI: Thai beat Dutch women by 99 runs
The Netherlands has not been able to beat Thailand women in the third ODI. Batting first the host made a solid 227 whilst the Dutch only managed 128 in reply.
With Annemijn Thomson and Robyn van Oosterom replacing Jolien van Vliet and Gwen Bloemen, captain Heather Siegers opted to field first.
Thanks to Chantam Thailand had a swift start until Tippoch played on to Zwilling. A bit later Koncharoenkai fell to a Zwilling outswinger.
It took a while for the third wicket to fall, but the runrate was successfully reduced: 73/2/20.
Apart from a difficult chance for Babette de Leede the Thai did not give much away. The Dutch keeper came back strongly when she brilliantly caught Chantam (55) off Landsheer, who consequently bowled Sutthiruang facing her first delivery.
Unfortunately for the Netherlands it was now Naruemol Chaiwai (65) who batted through. Although Robine Rijke (1-20) took a sharp catch off her own bowling and the excellent Zwilling (5-25) and Landheer (4-43) got Thailand all out, the hostesses still managed a substantial score of 227 runs, including 25 wides.
Netherlands innings
As almost usual the start of the Dutch was good with De Leede and Kalis. After the first Powerplay it was 44/0. However, De Leede (30) got too greedy and holed out to cow corner.
Rijke and Kalis (19 off 52) tried to find singles, but that was not easy on the accurate spinners. The runrate decreased from 4.4 to just over three an over.
After the dismissal of both batters the Dutch relied on Siegers and Zwilling. They had a decent partnership until Zwilling became the run out victim of a misunderstanding.
Since the wickets kept falling regularly the match almost became a carbon copy of the first one. Despite a good knock from Siegers (32) the Dutch were all out for 128.
National team coach Shane Deitz analysed the game as follows:
“Good toss to win today as the pitch was a bit soft with lots of cloud cover but we were unable to really capitalise. Credit to Thailand - they batted really well today in those conditions. We bowled and fielded well at times but we offered them a 4 ball to frequently which released the pressure we previously built up.”
“Iris Zwilling bowled the best she has ever bowled in international cricket to produce the 2nd best ODI figures for a Dutch woman in ODI cricket with 5-25.”
“With the bat we got off to another great start with some great batting by Babette but again a few silly shots and good tight bowling was our undoing.”
“If we put all the elements of the game together we will be on the right side of the result as our skill level is good, we just need to bring all aspects of the game together."
