- VCC women win the 'double', Hermes DVS champion HK and Hercules champion EK
After winning the national championship in the 40 over league, the women of Voorburg CC also won the title in the short game variant T20. On a successful final day for women's cricket at Excelsior '20 in Schiedam, Rood en Wit was defeated 109-90.
Rood en Wit restricted VCC to 109 runs and it was thanks to good innings by Eva Lynch (46 not out) and Annemijn van Beuge (18) that VCC got above 100 at all. Heather Siegers took two wickets for the Haarlemmers.
Rood en Wit innings
Thanks to Heather Siegers (22 runs), Rood en Wit had a smooth start. However, when she got out and Vera Paree suffered a nasty hamstring injury, the other Haarlem batters were unable to keep up the pace. VCC's bowling and fielding was excellent and VCC showed that it had a broad base of good players. Bowler Sarah Asmussen took three wickets.
Back row from left to right: Eva Lynch, Sarah Asmussen, Iris Zwilling, Babette de Leede, Sterre Molkenboer, Grace Clayton-Ward.
Front row: Rosalie Lawrence, Carlijn van Koolwijk, Annemijn van Beuge, Donna Polet, Julia Corder.
Hermes DVS to Topklasse after win over Quick (Hg)
At a crowded Loopuyt Oval, Hermes DVS put icing on the cake by beating Quick (Hg) by eight wickets. Quick opted for batting. Cameron Jackson, who made for 223 runs last week, only managed 26 and when Beckham Wheeler Greenall (21) was caught, Hermes was on top. Daan Vierling and Henk Mol both made 51 runs (the latter not out), reaching a total of 219/7. Left arm spinner Sahil Kothari brought his season record to 47 wickets at 3-39.
For Hermes, Daniel Doyle Calle, known for his T10 cricket in Spain, came out all guns blazing with 70 runs off only 37 balls, in a partnership of 94 for the first wicket. This laid the perfect foundation for a Schiedam victory. Ashley Ostling, who made more than 1,100 runs in the season, remained not out with 93. Thanks to an unbeaten partnership of 107 runs with Zaffar Chaudhary (40 not out), the champagne could be uncorked and the light blue fireworks lit. According to insiders, things remained unsettled in Schiedam for a long time.
First Division: Hercules promoted
At Punjab, Hercules ensured Qui Vive was out for 156 (Richard Fernandez 42, Arslan Ahmed 3-24). The not too impressive total was passed in 37.5 overs with Saqib Sultan (56) as the top scorer. Hercules is promoted to the Dutch Hoofdklasse.
