- Win and loss for Dutch women at ECC-W
The T10 matches against Italy and Scotland on Wednesday produced a mixed picture. Against Italy, the Netherlands was lord and master (109-96). However, a nice total against Scotland was not successfully defended (123/3 – 124/6). Phebe Molkenboer signed for two fast half centuries.
Against Italy, Sanya Khurana (24 off eleven balls) was again unlucky to be caught brilliantly (48/1). Robine Rijke got a tough stumping decision; on the other hand, Merel Dekeling survived a close LBW shout one ball later. Halfway through the innings, it was 68/2 and a 120+ score seemed to be in the offing. Where Phebe Molkenboer was stuck at 49 on Tuesday, she now reached the milestone of a nice half century with 52 runs from only 23 balls. Mainly because of her, the Netherlands XI reached 109/6.
On the second ball, Merel Dekeling made no mistake with a difficult skier (0/1). Moments later, Sanya Khurana even repeated this feat twice at long off. Despite 48 runs from Italian star Ilenia Sims, Italy did not get beyond 95/6. Especially Pien Oost (2-15) and Merel Dekeling (15) were to praise for this with excellent bowling figures.
Scotland wins
Against Scotland, Phebe Molkenboer - although dropped on 20 and 28 - underlined her class and good form with 64 not out (including six sixes!). A total of 124/6 (Robine Rijke 30, Robin Schmidt a lightning-fast 22 not out off just five balls) should be enough against the Scots.
Scotland got off to a flying start and the 34/1 through a catch by Molkenboer should have brought the turnaround. However, the Netherlands had not counted on Abbi Aitken-Drummons. With 51 not out off 21 balls - unfortunately dropped on 15 - she made sure that Scotland always stayed on the trail of the Dutch score. There was a lot of bowling down leg, and nine wides did not help the Dutch cause. Silver Siegers escaped the onslaught with 2-11 (including the dangerous Carter) and Robin Schmidt took 2-31. Dekeling, Van der Woning and Rijke each took a catch, but they could not prevent a wide in the tenth over from bringing the win to Scotland.
The Netherlands must finish in the top 3 to reach the Finals Day.
