- Women's T10 win over Italy; loss against England after strong start
In the first match of the strongest European T10 countries in southern Spain, the Netherlands A - despite a defeat - left a good impression. A cheeky start resulted in the promising score of 43/2 after four overs. Unfortunately, too many wickets fell after that, leaving the final total at 96 after ten overs. England went past that score with sixteen balls to go. Later in the day, Italy was defeated 113-91.
Phebe Molkenboer (10 off six balls) started with a well-timed four and hit a six in the same over. Unfortunately for the Dutch she was unable to follow up on that good start. Sanya Khurana (caught in the covers) and Robine Rijke (18 out of eleven, caught at long on) - and later also Lotte Schmidt - fell victim to fantastic catches by the English. Merel Dekeling (19 off twelve balls) hit the two most beautiful sixes of the day -- and even a third, which initially came into the books as a single due to a mistake. This was corrected a bit later. Thanks to a nice six over the top by Robin Schmidt in the final over, the Netherlands (including the correction) managed 96 runs.
England innings
On 35/1, an important chance was dropped (Fackrell on 15). With 41 runs off seventeen balls, she then laid the foundation for the British victory. Hannah Landheer, Merel Dekeling and Robine Rijke took good catches in the outfield and a stop by Isabel van der Woning on deep cover also effortlessly made it to the highlights. Bowling, Landsheer excelled with 2-12.
The Netherlands A gives Italy a run for their money
A disastrous start against Italy (1/2) was powerfully compensated by Sanya Khurana (39) and Merel Dekeling (41, both off 19 balls), who brought the score to 74/3. This time the Netherlands A managed to break the 100 barrier: 113/8. Mahamalage took the pace off the ball and took 2-10 for the Italians.
Catches by Caroline de Lange and keeper Rosalie Lawrence resulted in two down, but some misfields and drops brought Italy back into the game (35/2/4). Phebe Molkenboer, Merel Dekeling, Robin Schmidt and Hannah Landheer closed their hands in time. In the end, Italy fell 23 runs short. Schmidt (2-10) and Silver Siegers (2-15) excelled in the Dutch attack.
