- Work to be done for women in Orange
The third T20I was won by Namibia. The Netherlands managed 83 runs off their twenty overs. Namibia lost seven wickets before surpassing that score in the final over.
In view of the weatherforecast - it was supposed to rain heavily- it was a good toss to win. Unfortunately for the Dutch, the coin fell favourably for the visitors so the home team was asked to bat first.
Nine runs for two wickets was not the score the Netherlands would have hoped for. In the sixth over, umpire Hancock raised his index finger for the fourth time (30/4). Wilka Mwatile took 4-18.
Just like on Tuesday afternoon, it was up to the middle order to make a defendable total. Heather Siegers and Caroline de Lange made a 25 run partnership for the fifth wicket.
Heather (39 and the only batter to reach double figures) looked solid; defensive when necessary and aggressive when possible.
‘One shot too many’ ended her excellent knock when she was caught at long on. It was 70/6 after fifteen overs.
Batting the full twenty overs would be important. Unfortunately however, eight wickets had been lost after sixteen overs. 83/9 after twenty overs was the not so brilliant end result.
Namibia innings
Adri van der Merwe hit Iris Zwilling for a nice lofted drive, but Iris retaliated one over later, catching Adri at mid off.
Tuesday’s heroin Caroline de Lange’s fantastic catch off her own bowling meant 20/2.
However, an important difference with the Dutch innings was that Namibia had only lost two wickets after ten overs.
Iris took her second catch confidently at long on to get rid of the dangerous Green: 54/3.
A short delivery from Hannah Landheer was miscued by Diergaardt and landed in the safe hands of Sterre Kalis at cover. It was 62/4 in the thirteenth over.
Fine bowling by Eva Lynch and Frédérique Overdijk brought the Netherlands back in the game.
It even came to the final over before Namibia got the winning runs.
